Holding hands- A tag!

Holding hands, what does it mean to you?

Is what I am supposed to write about. Rukhiya that little peppy and pert, and pretty and perfect poet of a soul had asked me to do this, a whole age ago! Sorry, Rukhiya, for taking so long, but then, you know how it is 🙂

Holding hands for me, with the you who is me too, would be…

  • to say I’m there for you, with you, by you, in you 🙂
  • to guide you when I know the way… 🙂 🙂
  • to be led when I am unsure, for I know you know me better than I do me, and I will always be safe 🙂
  • to feel that warmth seeping in, when all of a sudden coldness chills the heart
  • to say, you see, I’m holding the world in my hands, the same way you are; silently, solidly, togetheredly [grammar rules, out of this blog :D!!!]
Holding hands for me, with the children would be…

  • to say how happy and proud I am of you 🙂
  • to soothe your anxiety 🙂
  • to touch the cold clammy sweat and know… and tell you that I know 🙂
  • to simply know that you’re there, for me, as I am for you!
  • to tell you, you’re safe, and I will be there, to lead sometimes, to be led by you most times 🙂
  • to let you show the world I do care, for sometimes the unspoken and the spoken isn’t enough and they need , I need and you need a tangible concrete sign 🙂
  • to share with you my need for you
  • to just be part of you, as you are part of me… 🙂
  • to keep you with me just that little longer, and draw from you an innocence that would refresh my jaded life 🙂

Holding hands….

  • is the surest and simplest way of keeping together
  • can only be the greatest force in these times of nasty divisions and dividers
  • will one day be such a wonderful reality, is what I hope for, all the time

Can’t we all just simply reach out and hold hands for a better tomorrow, a better family, a better nation, and a simply truer world?

An extract from another favourite writer, Robert Fulghum, from his first book, “All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, goes as follows. His books are the sure fire inspirations of my own life too.. just as Richard Bach’s are 🙂 Sadly I haven’t been able to get any of his books here, after “True Love” [which is simply out of this world :)] One of my writes on the other blog is straight out of one of his essays!

If you have time do read this extract:

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.

These are the things I learned:

  • Share everything.
  • Play fair.
  • Don’t hit people.
  • Put things back where you found them.
  • Clean up your own mess.
  • Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
  • Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.
  • Wash your hands before you eat.
  • Flush.
  • Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
  • Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
  • Take a nap every afternoon.
  • When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
  • Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
  • Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup – they all die. So do we.
  • And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned – the biggest word of all – LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all – the whole world – had cookies and milk at about 3 o’clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

I will always Wonder, I have promised myself, and hold out my hand, just in case… 🙂

I know I’d love to see this tag done by:

You had me with this…right here at the beginning itself…”Holding hands for me, with the you who is me too”

and safety, security, warmth, love, being led,”to simply know that you’re there, for me, as I am for you!”,just being……all of it here ..so beautifully..no!lovingly….you thought about all of them didnt you? While writing?
A companion, husband, friend, warmth ….and your children too…those who have come from you….those with whom you have a bond like with no other….

and Robert Fulghum? What are you doing to me?After Richard Bach? This time I don’t even have to search for it…I am re-reading it again right now…:)come over and see!just for you..:)

”will one day be such a wonderful reality, is what I hope for, all the time”

  5. Hey I love this tag … and even while reading it the thought of how often we do it in real life rush into my mind. Love how you did this tag, it made us think of all the times we do hold hands, or when we miss the opportunity to …

It will be a pleasure to do this tag, thanks for tagging me 🙂

  6. Dhiren, thank you as always, for being so prompt on the posts. And yes, if only we could!

Thank you dear girl. You simply make the world a more beautiful place to be in!

IHM, delighted that you can do it 🙂 Indeed, ever so often we forget to hold hands when we ought to. Just thought I would reach out to some, and get more hands held here too 🙂 Thanks a lot!

  7. Yippie, another tag. Although, to think of anything new to say after reading yours would be very futile 🙂

  9. PS:-What do I write now O’ friend of mine?:)When you have said it all?
”to say I’m there for you, with you, by you, in you :)”
How ?How do I take it beyond this?….

”I will always Wonder, I have promised myself, and hold out my hand, just in case… :)”
This you see is why you are EXACTLY my age…in every sense of the word…..coz the wonder’s still there….I hope I always wonder too..:)

  12. I have kind of stopped writing after reading you and all the wonderful bloggers you endorse to 🙂 I believe being silent spectator pays 🙂

Even if I start of thinking to write on this, I would copy your words. Shamefacedly accepting to cheat in front of a teacher 😉

I would give it a try, nonetheless 😛
