A Mother is born… :)

This is a special post. One that is long delayed too, but today, I am glad I did delay it. For it found a perfect timing. 🙂

IHM, a long while ago, had tagged me on the first born detailing post.. 🙂 I had been wanting to get to it for, like, ages.. but only today did the urge seize me and force me to the computer, to make me manage time, so that something special is there, to share, this day. Why this day, you ask? You shall find out somewhere down the read, hopefully 🙂 🙂

They say a mother is born with the first child she has, and so it is both a learning experience and a re discovery of another you, when you have a baby… and to be gender safe, let me say the same goes for the father too.. 🙂

1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?

Nopes… 🙂 🙂 It was rather a surprise 🙂

2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?

:D.. YES!

3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?

Surprise, and then a wonderful anticipation:)

4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU?

No. NOT.

5. HOW OLD WERE YOU?

Just over twenty 🙂

6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?

The usual delay :D! Then the knowing… 🙂 And finally a lab test. 🙂

7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?

My husband

8. DUE DATE?

April, and we were hoping for a Vishu Kaineettam 🙂 (That is a sort of gift you get at Vishu, usually in the form of coins, money, given with blessings to start the new year :))

9. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?

Plenty… till the end… till he was born 🙂

10. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?

Surprisingly… nothing :)!

11. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?

Me and myself, I think, more than anything else 🙂

12. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD’S SEX?

A boy 🙂

13. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?

🙂 I would not be entirely honest if I said I did not 🙂

14. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?

I didn’t, I lost weight 🙂

15. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?

No.

16. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?

Not applicable… 🙂

17. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?

Apart from not gaining weight, and not being able to keep much food down, nothing 🙂

18. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?

Was with my parents, in Bangalore 🙂

19. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?

About 24 hours… mild at first but from about night, till the next noon, I was in labour!

20. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL/BIRTH CENTER?

My parents.

21. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH?

My gynaec. and her team, and a close family friend who is a child specialist at the same place.

22. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?

Natural, but outlet forceps.

23. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?

I am not sure that it was in, in those days. I did not even know about it 🙂

24. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?

He was a big ‘un! 3.8 Kg. 🙂

25. WHEN WAS YOUR CHILD ACTUALLY BORN ?

1.40 in the afternoon.

26. WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN THE DOCTOR THE SEX OF THE BABY?

I kind of knew… 🙂 So it was not much of a surprise. But there was a whole lot of relief too, because it was over, and the whole process was natural, and I did not have to take a C section.

27. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST REACTION ON SEEING THE BABY?

Can’t explain, really. It was a moment I had always known about. A deja vu, if you would. In fact years ago, much before I got married, or even had the inkling about it, I had written about him, here 🙂 Don’t ask me how, but that is how he turned out too, as a young one, and still is one 🙂

28. DID YOU CRY?

Yes.. 🙂

29. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?

Kunju 🙂

30. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY?

It’s his birthday today… and that is why I am writing in this post.. to make it all the more special 🙂 So I cant say the exact age because, you see, it’s bad luck. Lol. :D! But he’s in his mid twenties..:)And finally after an age, more than 6 years we are spending it together 🙂

🙂 Happy Birthday, all over again, Kunju 🙂

Now I must share this too… and that is a reference to the second born 🙂 He is definitely going to find this post, and he is going to say, see I told you na, I’m second best (especially when he was supposed to be a girl, according to my prediction, and he turned out a boy :D! Lol!), so you aren’t writing anything about me. For those who are second born and know how it is, I must tell you, I have this too, for him, here.. 🙂 If you have the time 🙂

  3. The first child is a special one
more so if it happens to be a son
it is like a first medal you won
I know for sure coz i am also one
    and so is my son.

Convey best wishes to Kunjumon. May he have all that he wishes for and more.:))) And Happy Vishu too to your family.

Thank you Govind! Yes indeed the first born is special, but may I be so bold as to add, that it is just as special if it were a girl too 🙂 Infact I wished so that it would be a girl… second time round too.. 🙂 But… 🙂 🙂 Thanks 🙂 for the lovely way it has been conveyed!

And yes, Happy Vishu to you and yours too!

    • Yeah you are right,so I will make the following changes.

The first child is a special one
whether it is a daughter or a son
it is like a first medal you won
I know for sure coz i am also one.

I would be lying if I said I was not a tad bit disappointed when the second also was a boy.

      pinnae Kani kando?

Now that is more or less perfect, Govind! Thank you for so generously modifying it 🙂 🙂
And, I was more than a tad disappointed… 🙂 But then, it was only momentary; and I have found ever so many daughters along the way 🙂 And it makes up for it 🙂 Thank you Govind, ever so much. Kani Kandu 🙂 Raavile 4manikku 🙂 Vishu kaineetam kitti, and koduthu, kuttikalkku 🙂 And that felt so good 🙂

This is my favorite tag Usha Pisharody 🙂 Loved reading your answers, and you are right the second child is sure to demand why he is missing here! I am so glad you wrote a post on him too 🙂
I too have been planning to that before he decides to check my blog 😉

You lost weight throughout your pregnancy? I did in the first trimester… nausea is the worst physical discomfort I have ever experienced…
    😦
And he is an Aries baby 🙂

Glad that the open page finally got attention.. 🙂 Lol. And yes, it really is a favourite with me, esp. since the first born got here too.. 🙂 So it has become even more precious 🙂 Yes, he is Aries, a Sun Child 🙂 That is why I said, I knew.. just knew 🙂 🙂

However though there is a post for the second born, I think something similar willhave to be attempted to really soothe him.. 🙂 And I shall take his help for it 🙂 🙂

Thanks for asking me to do it, and for being here to share in the joy I felt in sharing it!

  20. Mom always said she wanted a girl -> and apparently I was dressed in gowns until I started violently protesting around the age of two. But I think that, by now, she’s settled into the idea of having a (uber cool) boy instead 🙂

This had revealing insights into something I don’t usually hear talk about! Thanks Usha – nice post 🙂

Aareet, I know exactly how your mother must have felt 🙂 🙂 And you too 🙂 🙂 Thank you too, Aareet 🙂

    great!!! hehe

Motherhood consists on managing to keep the balance, esp with two boys.. :P! And when you are a mother born over and over again with the next ones, it makes you utterly at home with spending your time keeping peace around the place… 😀 :D!! Thanks Praveen!

Lol :D! Just discovered it too! That you dont! Please do drop the link in, after 4th of June, is it? 🙂 All the best for the exams 🙂 I hear you are in contention for the prize of comment monster too :P! Good going! Love the way your comments make one think, introspect and ruminate 🙂

      Like

      • First of all Thank You for the wishes. I will certainly need then to get by this semister. 😕 Secondly, I don’t feel I’m in contention for the prize of comment monster. I believe Indyeah deserves it and should ALWAYS stay as the queen of comments/comment monster. 🙂

And yes, I guess, I do make one think, introspect and ruminate through my comments. BUT I do it myself before leaving comment for someone. 😉 🙂

ush: Badz… by all means, let Indygurl retain the queen title 🙂 She is basically the one who got me too, to leave these darned long comments, and her gracious and generous attention to each one is something special.
Well, it is very clear too, that, as with Indyeah, you certainly are very passionate about what you share through your comments, and that can come only with all those said actions 🙂 thinking, ruminating, and introspecting 🙂 Good. Am glad that there is another person I can look up to, for those things! For, being that way, does indeed inspire others to do the same 🙂 Thank you 🙂

And I have just learnt you are a teach. Is that true?? What do you teach and to what age group do you teach??

ush: A teacher, who hesitates to call herself that, because I find myself more of a learner, most times :P! I teach at school level, upto 10th, English 🙂 That would mean children upto about 15 years.

        Like

        • Sorry I mean teacher.

          🙂 Gotttitt!

        • I just like to say. I thought you were an English teacher. You write so well and you have such a wide range of vocabulary. 😀

Although, I must say I use to hate English at school because I always ended up with bad or really strick English teachers. BUT it’s funny now, I use to hate reading and analysing, plus poetry (still am bad at it. 😦 ). And NOW (last 3/4 years) I love it. I read now (when not studying or on vacations) until my eye lids drop and I am falling asleep. At which point I have to force myself to put the book down. 😦 😉

Stranger things happen I guess… 🙂 I am , however glad that you did discover a love of the language, gradually, even though the teachers did seem to put you off 🙂

Thank you for the kind words too!

My camera conked out, so no pictures, but yes, by Tuesday, I ought to have some sort of post ready with that of the Pooram. A tad late, but then better later than never 🙂
